Nafiu in action. He scored three goals today.

Male, MALDIVES - Ali Nafiu scored three goals in the 7 goal thumping of Thoddoo FC by Maziya in today’s Dhiraagu Dhivehi League match. Shafraz, Ahmed Rasheed (Ammadey) and Abdullah Ibrahim also managed to put their names in the score sheet.

The first goal for Maziya came in the 12th minute. Shafraz easily put the ball in the net from a superb through pass by Abdullah Ibrahim.

Five minutes later, Abdullah Ibrahim scored another goal. At first Nafiu tried to shoot from the corner kick, but he missed. Instead Abdullah Ibrahim shot it to the corner of the goal.

Maziya increased their lead at the dying minutes of the first half. Rasheed scored his first from a cross by Shafraz.

Shafraz doubled his goals, in the first minute of the second half. He headed the ball in to the net from a corner kick. It was not a strong header and the Thoddoo player marking the post could have easily stopped it.

Maziya scored their fifth goal in the 62nd minute. Nafiu took the shot outside the penalty area from a corner kick.

Nafiu doubled his goals in the 86th minute from the spot.

He scored his hat-rick in the 90th minute. He scored the goal from a through pass by Rasheed. He dribbled past the keeper to shoot it to the empty net.

After the match, Thoddoo FC manager, said that he was unhappy with the result.

“This is not a good result. But we have to know that we have travelled for six hours prior to the match. It is bad weather today and it is natural the players were exhausted. Two of our players could not play because of headaches and two other defenders could also not play in today’s match”

However, he said the team would get better in the next matches and Nizam has been appointed as their new coach.

“Nizam would join the practices from the next matches. So the team is expected to get better”

Meanwhile, Maziya’s coach Ismail Mahfooz (Imma) said that it was a good result based on their position in the table.

“This is good that we managed to score 7 goals today. This would help us. But we need to produce good results in the next matches if we want to win Dhiraagu Dhivehi League”

“Our strikers have been good and they have proved how skillful they are”

“We could not use our two foreign players because of injuries. Those injuries are not so serious. But we wanted to give rest to those players. We did not use Daniel because he was unfit.”
