Male', MALDIVES - VB continued their top form in Dhiraagu Dhivehi League after they beat Valencia in today’s match. Ali Umar scored three goals to continue their winning streak. Two goals came from penalties and the second goal was headed by Ali Umar.
Valencia goal keeper Habeeb was forced to make an excellent save in the fourth minute. Ali Umar dribbled past his marker inside the box and took the shot, but keeper Habeeb bravely punched the ball and Ali Umar’s second shot went wide.
It was Valencia who took the lead in the 12th minute. Nashid managed to beat two defenders of VB and Rilwan who left unmarked in the far post easily shot it into the empty net from the cross.
VB scored their first goal in the 30th minute from a penalty kick by Ali Umar. Huseyin was brought down by Rilwan inside the penalty area.
VB increased their lead in the 48th minute. Ali Umar headed the ball into the corner of the net from Shuaib’s cross.
Rilwan was showed a red card in the 72nd minute and referee awarded a penalty for VB as Rilwan brought down Ali Umar inside the penalty area. Ali Umar scored from the spot.
After the match, VB’s coach Vanli expressed his satisfaction over the performance.
“We started slow. There was lack of concentration and later on after they scored a goal, we started to reduce our mistakes and the game construction was good after it. Overall, the players worked hard and I am satisfied”
“I told you two days back, that this game would not be easy. They moved around a lot and it was difficult for us.”
Vanli also said Ali Umar proved that he is one of the top talents.
“What can I say more about Ali Umar. He showed what he is today on the pitch. He was superb. He scored three goals and managed to get the penalty. So it describes his performance.”
Meanwhile, Valencia’s coach Binma said that the players made too many mistakes and that was the reason for the loss.
“We gave away the ball too cheaply and that costs us the game. All the goals they scored, we gave away the ball. It was silly mistakes from our side”
“But a long break like we had might have a huge affect on the players. That might be the reason.”
