Keeper Habeeb saves a shot by Ali Umar
Male', MALDIVES - VB continued their top form in Dhiraagu Dhivehi League after they beat Valencia in today’s match. Ali Umar scored three goals to continue their winning streak. Two goals came from penalties and the second goal was headed by Ali Umar.

Valencia goal keeper Habeeb was forced to make an excellent save in the fourth minute. Ali Umar dribbled past his marker inside the box and took the shot, but keeper Habeeb bravely punched the ball and Ali Umar’s second shot went wide.

It was Valencia who took the lead in the 12th minute. Nashid managed to beat two defenders of VB and Rilwan who left unmarked in the far post easily shot it into the empty net from the cross.

VB scored their first goal in the 30th minute from a penalty kick by Ali Umar. Huseyin was brought down by Rilwan inside the penalty area.

VB increased their lead in the 48th minute. Ali Umar headed the ball into the corner of the net from Shuaib’s cross.
Rilwan was showed a red card in the 72nd minute and referee awarded a penalty for VB as Rilwan brought down Ali Umar inside the penalty area. Ali Umar scored from the spot.

After the match, VB’s coach Vanli expressed his satisfaction over the performance.

“We started slow. There was lack of concentration and later on after they scored a goal, we started to reduce our mistakes and the game construction was good after it. Overall, the players worked hard and I am satisfied”

“I told you two days back, that this game would not be easy. They moved around a lot and it was difficult for us.”

Vanli also said Ali Umar proved that he is one of the top talents.

“What can I say more about Ali Umar. He showed what he is today on the pitch. He was superb. He scored three goals and managed to get the penalty. So it describes his performance.”

Meanwhile, Valencia’s coach Binma said that the players made too many mistakes and that was the reason for the loss.
“We gave away the ball too cheaply and that costs us the game. All the goals they scored, we gave away the ball. It was silly mistakes from our side”

“But a long break like we had might have a huge affect on the players. That might be the reason.”

It was nice to see such a young talent getting recruited by VB and then to let him actually play in their first game since his recruitment was a good move by VB. Am sure as days goes by he will become mature and will end up getting more time on the pitch. I urget other teams to follow such a scheme for the development of soccer in maldives. On a different note, I wonder if the Under 19 FA cup is still on? i was happy to hear the news ,but i wonder if it will happen, and if it does it will be great for our young players. The interschool tournament was a success and i hope the under 19 tournament will materialise too. For young talents match experience at international level is vital, and i was again happy to hear that Singapore U23 team was going to come and play 2 friendlies on the 2nd and 4th of July 2010. Some how it didnt happen on those days but can MS please find out if it has been delayed or if it was cancelled altogether. We were promised couple of more national team friendlies for this year. If i recall correctly it is against Turkmenistan and Bahrain. Wonder what the status of these games are. Having said all these, I really appreciate what FA Maldives has done during the year and Thanks for that and keep it up.
