Dhaka, BANGLADESH – Maldives coach Urbanyi is opted to give unused players a chance to impress in the game against Bangladesh tomorrow. Speaking exclusively to maldivesoccer.com, Urbanyi added he will rest senior players for the semi final game.
“I will give chance to the players who did not play much in this competition. That does not mean we don’t want to finish at the top of the group.”
“The target of the tournament is to give experience to the young ones. I will give chance to Athif, Sentey, Niyaz and Messi. The senior players will not start the game.”
“Bonda has some small problems not injuries. Also Ashfaaq missed a few practices before. Same as two kilo. Umair also worked very very hard yesterday.”
Regarding the opponents of the semi final, the coach said that he is not scared of the opponent. But would respect whoever they face.
“I am not scared. I respect the opponents. All the time best team wins. The team who wins will always play better in some part of the game.”
“There are some positives of the tournament. We have to respect the effort and the attitude of the players.
Regarding some comments posted on maldivesoccer.com coach said that the players should get more respect.
“Sometimes I want three or five (goals), that shows we are inside the penalty area of the opponent and the opponent stopped us in the wrong way. If we beat Nepal, it’s a good result. I should suggest giving a bit more respect to the players. We need to give some confidence and appreciation. They are trying their level best. Football is changing everywhere. Not only in Maldives, Nepal and even in Afghanistan. If we don’t give the effort than we are not better than them.”
“Umair played in the central midfield and worked very hard. We need to mention those. We need to respect the hard work done by the players.”
The team had their practice session in the hotel focusing more on recovery. Maldives will play against Bangladesh in the last match of the group tomorrow at 1730hrs, Maldivian time.
